The story behind the college song is quite a story of genius.
Its composer, Aurea CARBALLO Gonzalez (HS ‘ 31, College ’34) writes: “…Mother Edmunde was not our Dean for nothing. She called me again, this time without smiling, set me in a room with a glass of milk and a plate of cookies, and left me alone, locking the door behind her….After two hours, Mother Edmunde came back and rather triumphantly got the song from me, and set me free.” (from “A Song Is Born”, Remembrance, 1991.)
And to the words of her lovely composition was added the music: “Several days later, that genius of the piano, Angeles RODRIGUEZ (College ’33), called us college girls to her piano room and in firm strong strokes played out the music to my words. “ (ibid)
So, in only less than a week, our college song was composed. Let its story remind all alumnae to sing it “well and loud and long”.
St. Theresa’s College Song
Lyrics: Aurea CARBALLO-Gonzalez (High School ‘31, College ‘34)
Music: Angeles RODRIGUEZ (High School ’26, College ‘33)
1
Come Theresians and acclaim
St. Theresa’s glorious name,
Grateful hearts their tribute bear
Loving lips shall sing for her
For she stands, among the rest
As the greatest and the best.
Chorus:
Dearest home we stand for you,
Far or near our song rings true
And our theme fore’er shall be,
“St. Theresa, hail to Thee” (2)

Come let’s sing our sweetest song,
Sing it well and loud and long,
For the dear old College walls,
For the old familiar halls,
For our Alma Mater’s sake
Bright and glad our song we’ll make.
